In a TV.com interview, the actress who plays Janice Parkman on Heroes shares her thoughts about the upcoming season.

Does she have a secret power?

Does she have a secret power?

Lisa Lackey‘s character on Heroes, Janice Parkman, was hard to like in the first season. She cheated on her lovable husband, the mind-reading cop Matt, and didn’t give him the support he needed when he discovered his powers. But, to be fair, audiences never got to know Janice. She appeared in only a few episodes. For nearly two seasons, she was Matt’s estranged wife — and out of the picture. But this is H

eroes, after all, so characters don’t leave for good.

It was good to see her face again. Characters without powers, like Janice Parkman, are an asset to the show. During the last two seasons, the characters “got kind of carried away with the powers and the bad guys,” Lackey explained during a phone interview. Characters like Janice Parkman bring them back to earth. “My character is trying to be as supporting and as loving as she can,” Lackey said.

Who can fly the fastest? Or fall to their certain death just to get up again and again? As cool as that is to see, Heroes is not about those feats. “It wasn’t about their powers,” Lackey said about the first season, but about “how on Earth were they going to cope with the powers they had.”

Over the last two seasons, people without powers may have been the show’s missing element. The writers probably realized this, because Lackey just started shooting Season Four. “I’m hoping that Janice will possibly have a storyline of her own that is really interesting, and which shows a lot of character and strength on her behalf,” Lackey added.

Strong characters who don’t have powers have an important role in Heroes because they keep the powerful ones in touch with reality. See what Lackey gets up to this season on Heroes which premieres Sept 21 on NBC.
