Cartoon Network 2009-2010 season

Cartoon NetworkThe cast of Cartoon Network’s live-action Scooby-Doo movie. And they’re actually teens. I know that bleaching Freddie Prinz Jr.’s hair was a HUGE mistake, but surely there is some blond kid out there who can work a red ascot.

Cartoon Network has long since pulled away from recycled cartoons from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s and has been offering original animated programs for some time now. But up until this year, the new offerings have come a little at a time. In the upcoming 2009-2010 season, however, things get a lot more animated as Cartoon Network is scheduled to debut 19 new ventures. The new stuff will be a mix of animated and live-action series and movies. OK, I’m just going to say it: If you’re a kid or a kid at heart, there is something in the mix for everyone. And for all you “Ben 10″ fans — and there must be a lot of them — you’re going to get yet another animated series and another live-action movie. Here’s the rundown on what to expect in the coming months. Debut dates are still up in the air.

Heroes 4th Season News

G4′s” Blair Butler introduced the panel — Heroes creator Tim Kring, returning cast Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet), Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura), Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli), Zachary Quinto (Sylar) and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli), and brand-new cast members Robert Knepper (T-Bag in “Prison Break”), Dawn Olivieri, Ray Park and Madeline Zima.

Kring explained that the theme of “Redemption” has been in the plans for a long time. With the government no longer hunting those with abilities, the heroes and villains are each able to forge the next chapters of their lives as they choose.

Matt Parkman has returned to the police force. After suffering and causing so much pain, “Peter is back to being a paramedic” (wasn’t he a nurse?). Claire is a college freshman. Noah is starting a new company.

New Tech: 3D TV from LG

LG has a demo version of its home 3D TV here at CES 2009, so we slipped on the 3D glasses and gave it a go. Much to our surprise, unlike a number of the other 3D TV showings here at CES, it didn’t leave us with a headache or feeling like we needed an Swedish eyeball massage.

LG showed off a pair of prototype plasma 3D TVs that it is planning for homes. Find out more details about these next-gen flatscreens and what it’s really like to watch  LG’s 3D TV.

When you slip on the ‘Active Shutter’ 3D glasses and look at the plasma screen the images instantly stretch onto multiple planes, with objects in the foreground sharply focussed, accentuated by layered backgrounds and scenery that rolls realistically towards the horizon. One particularly smart moment that we witnessed was when a virtual butterfly flew in front of the main cartoon character on screen in the foreground, triggering a response of “what the hell’s that!” in front of our eyes. Point is it worked, it’s reasonably convincing, and there was far less eye strain than we’ve experienced before with other 3D systems. Plus, unlike old school 3D concepts there’s none of that red and blue image stuff, instead representing the true gamut of colours. Impressive.

As for the plasmas, LG had two 3D TVs on show – 55 and 60-inch models each with HDMI and loaded with LG’s top image processing tech.

No word yet on when 3D TV will become a reality in the home, but it’s definitely something that LG and the other big telly manufacturers are beginning to look at seriously.

An interesting concept. More like a reinvention of the 3d glasses. Hopefully they’ll get it right. They got the part where it doesn’t hurt people’s eyes now. Just how to get it sold and how much will it cost part. Hope it doesn’t cost too much.

I always liked the guy. I knew of  him as the guy that gave out the sweepstakes checks, Star Search and back when he was on the Tonight Show.
