Final Fantasy XIV?!?!?!

Seems like Square Enix has been spouting out tons and tons of Final Fantasies all over the place. These guys have been banking on the Brand Name forever. It saved them from bankrupcy and all that but coming out with one after another over and over? I mean Final Fantasy XIII hasn’t even come out yet and they’re already releasing trailers to XIV? Okay, I’m a fan of the series but sheesh, I haven’t played an FF title since FF X2 and that wasn’t really a fun one because of the fact that it was all too girly for me.

Final Fantasy XIV

(ファイナルファンタジーXIV, Fainaru Fantajī Fōtīn ), also known as Final Fantasy XIV Online, is the fourteenth entry in the Final Fantasy series, due for release in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. It will be released simultaneously in all regions. Like Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online game. The game takes place in a land called Eorzea.

The battle and job systems will be different than the one previously used in Final Fantasy XI, which utilized experience points, and that the character races and monsters will resemble those found in Final Fantasy XI to allow players to create avatars similar to ones created in Final Fantasy XI. Group play has been de-emphasized, and now solo and group play have been balanced. Weapon use will alter “character development”. Square Enix is looking for a way to allow users to transfer their game names to the new MMO. Chocobos will also return, but in a different role from Final Fantasy XI where they were just steeds.

Japanese game maker pulls out its favorite PR chestnut, the countdown clock, and tosses up a teaser site for some video game.

There’s not much to the site: Some background art, text that reads “VI DAYS” and a countdown clock. Does it get anymore exciting than this? Yes, yes it does.

The countdown ends in six days. Set your watches and check back for the thrilling conclusion, which will probably be before the countdown ends because of a leaked Japanese magazine scan. Or something.
