PS3 Slim Faster with Firmware 3.0

Now that people have been ranting about why the Slim is slower even if Sony claims it’s faster than the Phat, they’ve released the new firmware which takes advantage of the so-called “faster processor” on the Slim that’s made with the new 45nm process.
I just hope playing games with this will be better, not that it matters to me. I still don’t have any of the current gen consoles. LOL.

PS3 Slim Slower then PS3 Phat?

According to our friends at Kotaku that PS3 Slim is tad bit slower that the older version of the Playstation 3. I wonder why? Even in my older posts, Sony claims that the Slim will be even faster than its previous iteration.

The Slim’s bootup doesn’t include the jingle and the Spider-Man font splash screen, but the level load also is faster, so the absence of that probably isn’t why the Slim’s faster in this test. But who knows.

It makes little sense that the new unit would have a different, slightly underpowered motherboard, so the rumor is that the two configurations might have different hard drives. The maker of the comparison claims both consoles use the same hard drive. It could also be a firmware issue. Who knows.

But look! Look at that! Why the Phat is practically done with the FBI warning before the Slim even shows it! Seven seconds saved! Go Phat! Go!

PS3 Belzar Modchip Possibly Fake

According to this blog, Belzar modchip is quite possibly a fake.

Yep, that’s Belzar right there. The same Belzar.com who only recently proclaimed to the world that they are on the verge of releasing a full-fledged direct boot modchip for the PS3. The first of its kind, they said. They’ve already sent out the second beta of the second modchip to 50 beta testers in fact!

And even if it wasn’t fake, I have some doubts with the said modchip since I’ve been recently researching a bit about it. There have been quite the buzz about the fact that the belzar modchip would only work until the next firmware update and then it’ll be pretty much useless. Even according to the comments in this website, which is a website all about modding the playstation 3. They have been quite skeptical about the capabilities of this chip.

PS3 Slim Sneak Peaks and Comparison

Sony’s longed for PS3 Slim has been greeted rapturously, with the console topping pre-order charts at retailers in the Japan and US alike. Extensive details on the design of the device have become available, and are visible below.

Additionally, new firmware has been hinted at for release (to all PS3s) before the year is out, finally offering full PS2 compatibility, though Sony now denies this (just as they denied the existence of the Slim, strangely enough).

Final Fantasy XIV?!?!?!

Seems like Square Enix has been spouting out tons and tons of Final Fantasies all over the place. These guys have been banking on the Brand Name forever. It saved them from bankrupcy and all that but coming out with one after another over and over? I mean Final Fantasy XIII hasn’t even come out yet and they’re already releasing trailers to XIV? Okay, I’m a fan of the series but sheesh, I haven’t played an FF title since FF X2 and that wasn’t really a fun one because of the fact that it was all too girly for me.

Final Fantasy XIV

(ファイナルファンタジーXIV, Fainaru Fantajī Fōtīn ), also known as Final Fantasy XIV Online, is the fourteenth entry in the Final Fantasy series, due for release in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. It will be released simultaneously in all regions. Like Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online game. The game takes place in a land called Eorzea.

The battle and job systems will be different than the one previously used in Final Fantasy XI, which utilized experience points, and that the character races and monsters will resemble those found in Final Fantasy XI to allow players to create avatars similar to ones created in Final Fantasy XI. Group play has been de-emphasized, and now solo and group play have been balanced. Weapon use will alter “character development”. Square Enix is looking for a way to allow users to transfer their game names to the new MMO. The developers say that, in addition to Final Fantasy XI, they have been influenced in the games creation by World of Warcraft, Age of Conan and Warhammer Online, but most of all by player feedback. Chocobos will also return, but in a different role from Final Fantasy XI where they were just steeds.
