Epic! Xbox 360 Failure Rate up to 54.2%

The Xbox 360 breaks five times as often as its closest failure-prone competitor, the PlayStation 3, a print edition-only Game Informer survey found.

The poorly manufactured, red ring of death-prone console has a 54.2 percent failure rate, compared to 10.6 percent for the PS3 and the Wii’s 6.8 percent.

The magazine surveyed nearly 5,000 readers to get the data. And while the 360′s rate is alarmingly higher than the others, it’s still bafflingly low because it blows the mind to imagine that 45.8 percent of the consoles have not broken. Also, Microsoft’s numbers are inflated because 360s are used the most of the three consoles. Results said 40.3 percent of 360 owners use the console three to five hours a day, compared to 37 percent of PS3 owners. Meanwhile, the plurality of Wii owners (41.4 percent) play their consoles less than an hour a day.

Microsoft also seized the gold medal for unhelpful customer service, taking nearly a month to repair or replace a console, while Nintendo and Sony stuck closer to a week. Only 37.7 percent of Microsoft customers found the company’s customer service was “very helpful,” compared to 51.1 percent fo Sony and 56.1 percent for Nintendo.

The most shocking number from the survey — and frightening from a consumer perspective — is only 3.8 percent of Xbox 360 owners said they’d never buy another Xbox because of hardware failure.

Overlord 2 Out on Retail Now

Overlord II is a 2009 third-person action-adventure game and sequel to the 2007 video game Overlord, developed by Triumph Studios and published by Codemasters for the Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. All versions were released in North America on June 23, 2009, then later in Europe on June 26 and Australia on July 9, 2009, along side two spin-offs; Overlord: Dark Legend and Overlord: Minions for the Wii and the Nintendo DS respectively.

Like Overlord before it, Overlord II ‘s plot is written by Rhianna Pratchett and follows the events of the first Overlord, where players will take control of the previous Overlord’s son (known as the Overlad), implied during the ending of Overlord: Raising Hell who as an infant has been smuggled away to the frozen mountain lands of Nordberg from a Roman-inspired civilization known currently as the “Glorious Empire”, bent on eradicating or enslaving known magical creatures. Other races set to appear thus far include thieving Gnomes and environmental activist motivated Elves, this allowing other elements besides fantasy such as politics, environmental issues and similar real-world problems to be parodied within the game.

Tony Hawk Ride Board = Hover Board?

Back to the Future 2, McFly with Hover Board
Back to the Future 2, McFly with Hover Board

Doesn’t Tony Hawks ingeniusly thought up of a peripheral that looks a lot like Back to the Future’s Hover Board? I guess that was his inspiration.

Anyway, some news on said controller:

Game Studios will now think up of other games to use this new ‘platform’ as they call it.

“We look at it less as a peripheral, as more of a platform,” Tsui told Videogamer. “The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we’re really excited to start working on those.”
