An Update on The Left4Dead 2 Boycott and Valve’s Response

17,000 Petitioners!!!!! There were over 17 freakin’ thousand petitioners that wanted to boycott the game. Imagine that.

So here’s what Valve’s response was:

WE RECOGNIZE:

-Valve is a company with financial needs and cannot be expected to survive without the release of new games.
-Judgment cannot be passed on the quality of Left 4 Dead 2 until its release.
-Left 4 Dead was, and is, a quality game which deserves the praise of the entire gaming community.

WE ARE COMMITTED:

-To holding Valve to its promise of free, continual updates to Left 4 Dead in order to build and sustain the community.
-To keeping the Left 4 Dead community together in order to improve the quality of online gaming.
-To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2.

Left4Dead 2, Features and Why People Don’t Like it

Set for Nov. 17 as an Xbox 360 and PC “exclusive”, the game will add melee combat, deeper cooperative gameplay and new weapons, including a chainsaw, frying pan, axe and baseball bat.

The game will make use of AI Director 2.0, which Valve says will take the game’s dynamic gameplay to the next level. That means the ability to procedurally change weather, world objects and pathways and “tailoring” enemy population, effects and sound.

The game will also feature new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items. Valve says the game is much larger than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.
