July 10, 2009 – He’s played both Hannibal King and Deadpool for Marvel, campaigned for the role of The Flash, and is married to the Black Widow. Now actor Ryan Reynolds has won the title role in Warner Bros.’ film adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern.

According to both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the 32 year-old Canadian beat out the likes of Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto for the part of pilot-turned-cosmic hero Hal Jordan.

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro) directs from a screenplay by Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Filming is expected to begin this January in Australia after Reynolds wraps the thriller Buried.

This just sucks @$$. Ryan Reynolds does not fit Green Lantern. He’d be better off as the Flash or someone funny.  Hal Jordan has a meanstreak. Hal Jordan is arrogant and overly aggressive when it comes to his heroics. You need an actor that has a bit of an evil streak to him. Can you imagine Ryan Reynolds doing Parallax? That’s just wrong. This will not bode well for this movie. According to IMDB, the movie is set to release on 2011. Let’s just hope in this 2 year time frame they’ll come up with a better Green Lantern. No offense to Ryan Reynolds, but he just doesn’t fit Hal’s image.
