Fanboys

stars Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler and Jay Baruchel as four friends and Star Wars fans who set out on a cross-country trip to break into Skywalker ranch and steal an early copy of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace from the cold grip of George Lucas himself. Along the way, though, they encounter dangerous Trekkies, pimps and Native Americans that look a lot like Mexicans.

Plot:

Die-hard Star Wars devotees, circa 1998, embark on a cross-country mission to break into Skywalker Ranch for a guerrilla preview screening of The Phantom Menace in Fanboys. Real-life fanboys know that the release of this mildly cute, mildly drooly, majorly too late spoof/homage has been delayed for more than two years. And during that time, an Internet-driven argument has raged about whether the final cut would retain a not-at-all-secret subplot involving the terminal illness of one of the Skywalker intruders. This critic says, ”Ick, it’s a gummy sentimental intrusion.” But the tribe spoke, saying, ”Keep it! That’s why the break-in is a gallant act!” We’re both right.

My Review:

I loved this movie, of course a Sci-fi Fan myself and a lover of geeks and nerds alike. I waited to have a copy of this movie for so long. I also really wanted to see Kirsten Bell in that skimpy Princess Leia outfit in action. LOL. Besides, any movie with her in it I’ll definitely watch it. For me Kirsten’s participation in this movie was a bit lacking. I kept telling myself, I wanna see more of her. And their use of their version of Booger (from Revenge of the Nerds) was genius. Every nerd / geek movie needs a Booger of their own. I thought that was the icing on the cake.

Although I’m more of a trekkie than a Star Wars fan myself. I still appreciated the fact that they included good ol’ Captain Kirk in there for show. This film is gets a C+ for me. A must watch movie if you’re a Star Wars fan.

Review from IMDB:

On a whole the premise of the story seems to be relatively promising, four Star Wars fanboys are all waiting anxiously for the release of the highly anticipated Star Wars prequel The Phantom Menace. But as news comes that one of the characters has only a few months to live, they decide to break into Skywalker Ranch to see the film they’ve been desperate to see for so long.

As I said, the film seems to have an entertaining plot, there are some laughable moments and a monumentally geeky cameo from Mr. Seth Rogen, who seems to have two parts in it. But that’s really where it ends, the plot becomes too mushy for my liking, it falls into the inevitable happy ending category. Though to be fair, the acting on the most part was cheesy (to say the least) from the start, especially the unbearable performance from Sam Huntington, who seems to exude a charmless manner that really grates on you towards the end. It truly is a film I recommend you not view.
