I’ve been doing a bit of trimming on the basil patch that our maid has been raising by herself. I did that because I noticed that the taste of the basil leaves have pretty much went from pungent to shit. And they were all starting to get yellow. Which is usually a sign that it was gonna die off. I don’t want that. So I went ahead and pinched off ALL of the yellow leaves and ALL of the flowers and ALL of the buds that were popping up.

Here’s what they look like now:

The plants have brightened up and are starting to grow new leaves. And the maid also stick all the branches that I had cut off into the soil in hopes of getting more basil to grow. Sure hope they do coz I love basil. One day when there’s enough I’ll make pesto out of this.

BTW, we no longer buy basil from the grocery. =D

So what did happen to my Arugula experiment?

Well the plants that I transplanted to another plant have pretty much all had died except for one really stubborn one that had only one cotyledon and is still struggling. I’m keeping that til it decides to say goodbye also. I’ll do my best to keep it alive. LOL.

I went ahead and planted more seeds in the old pot from which I had moved the original Arugula batch from.

Yeah, yeah. They’re badly spaced and a bit leggy. It’s the medium I tell ya! LOL. I mixed in a bit of one kind of soilless medium and a bit of the Ramgo stuff into the pot and there they are. Still a bit unsuccessful. Well I have managed to keep ‘em around longer. Now I have two pots of Arugula seedlings to watch. Plus that one lonely seedling in that big black pot. I hope this time they all make it.

check my recipe for this in my next post

I also went to a korean grocery that my friend Oliver Aquino had mentioned that sold those awesome bean sprouts that I love so much. I bought a bag, which was pretty darn cheap! (P40 for a big bag of it). I think they were edamame soy beans or something. If not at least now I can grow them since they were already sprouted I took a few of those sprouts and stuck them in a pot and hoped for the best. Also I guess I’ll find out what kind of beans they are when the sprouts fully mature and bare “fruit” or beans for that matter.

So here they are in a pot and some potting mix:

And here they are after a few days in the pot:

They’ve grown quite nicely and have developed some true leaves after a couple days. I’ll end up potting them up in a much larger pot to give them space to grow and better roots after a week or so. Got the pots ready.

Can anybody tell me what ornamental pepper this is? I found this little beauty in Robinson’s near my place. Got it for P75. Which is cheap. Once the pods ripen to a nice red I’ll pick ‘em and grow more of these as gifts or something. I was happy to see this little thing since I’ve been trying to grow all these different kinds of peppers (still incoming from the mail).

While I was at the grocery I went out and bought a small pack of Thyme. I went ahead and stuck ‘em in water and rooting solution. A bunch of the cuttings perked up and had started to rehydrate themselves. Good thing I found a nice bunch of thyme that weren’t to dried out. Never had thyme plants before so I wanna try if I can root these the same way I had managed to root Tarragon. Since I only had the one small branch of Tarragon that rooted I’ll probably by a whole pack and root that too. And maybe some rosemary too.

Moved the cantaloupes out to the garden and had potted a couple in much larger pots, one in the ground and since I didn’t have any more spare pots  I moved two more in 4 inch pots and will repot them once they get larger or if the one in the ground does well I’ll just stick them all in the ground instead. Gotten some old fencing that was from my mom’s construction days and I’ll use it to train these plants to grow on them.

My tomato plants are doing fine. Although one’s starting to yellow up. I guess I need to buy some epsom salts and foliar spray it with it so it’ll green up. This growing business is getting expensive. I’ve already tried watering it with watered down milk supplement, that hasn’t helped. So I guess it needs magnesium and not calcium.

I’ve also moved a few of the plants to better containers. Took out all of the newspaper pots I made and started using plastic pots, keeps the moisture longer which is what I need. Too much of a hassle to watch out for plants that dry out too quickly.
