Now this is what I’m talking about! An all organic salad grown in my own garden. This is what keeps me gardening. The stuff I get to harvest makes me wanna grow more and more every time I see great results. And the fact that I get to eat what I grow is all the more reason for me to keep at it.

I know it’s very little. But I prefer to pick the leaves off my plants one or two at a time to keep them alive longer and have them produce more leaves for my grazing habit.

What’s in it:

Some baby arugula leaves, mesclun lettuce mix leaves and my brother in law’s salad dressing my sister brought home for me.

My review of my own grow:

The arugula was AWESOME! Took me a month before I could harvest anything out of it but it was damn worth every bit of it! It had the most wonderful fresh pepper taste. Almost sweet and not too strong like the stuff you get from the grocery.

The lettuce however was very bitter. The leaves got thick and leathery. Why? It’s completely my fault. I always ended up finding my lettuce all droopy and dried up and water them to keep ‘em alive. Which is a BIG no-no. If they are left to dry up like that they go bitter and become leathery. What happens is, the flavor condenses and the sap thickens up, the leaves get tough. Should water them as often as possible. Next time if ever I do grow lettuce again, I will do it that way.

I feel like I wanna grow more arugula. lol.
