Here are my benchmarks for Resident Evil 5 for the PC.
My Specs:
Intel Q6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz cooled by Swiftech Apogee GTZ / MCR320 Rad
Nvidia GTX295 Dual PCB Version
WD Velociraptor 300gb
4gb DDR2 1066 Rams
There are two selections under the RE5 Benchmark Tool, these are DX9 mode and the DX10 mode. Quite similar to the tool that they came out last year with Devil May Cry 4.
and then under these selections there’s a secondary setting that you can choose for benchmarking, Variable and Fixed. Variable Benchmark takes into account gameplay framerates and Fixed Benchmark tests the computer’s performance by a fixed scene.
My Benchmark Settings:
All set to MAX Settings except for Antialiasing. It seems my computer isn’t capable of giving decent results in CQ16 AA mode. So I set it to just plain old 8x AA to get some decent results out of it. The drivers I use is 185.85 WHQL. As per my doctor friend’s advise that the latest WHQL driver from Nvidia is still under performing. And it won’t exactly help since Nvidia hasn’t come up with a driver version that has optimizations for this specific game.
Let’s see the DX10 first…..
DirectX 10 Benchmark Results:
Variable Benchmark:
Fixed Benchmark:
DirectX 9 Benchmark Results:
Okay, for some reason I couldn’t get the result screen from the benchmark tool. I’ll just describe my results.
Variable and Fixed Benchmark Results:
Let’s just say I was getting the a steady stream of mid 50s to high 50s frames per second on both benchmarks for DirectX 9.
Observations:
The graphics of this game is AWESOME! I couldn’t tell that this game is actually a port of a console game. One of the most graphically beautiful games I’ve ever seen, EVER. Well aside from the fact that PC users get anti aliasing perks, which helps. I can’t wait til this game actually gets released. As usual, my SLI card isn’t optimized for this game. Which is, as always, a disappointment. But 8x AA is pretty good enough considering. I set it to CQ16x and I couldn’t get decent frame rates from my rig, the frames were dropping to 24 fps which is unacceptable for me. I want smooth gameplay. I guess I could try turning on V-sync and probably see improvements overall at CQ16X AA. Since DX9 mode and DX10 mode doesn’t really yield much difference in gaming, I’ll be playing in DX10 instead, even if there isn’t much difference, from what i’ve seen, graphics wise.
