As we know, Intel is planning for launch of Clarkdale in Q1 next year, and many of you may be eager to learn about its performance - it’s Intel’s first 32nm processor after all.

The folks at our friend site IT168 has managed to grasp a Clarkdale 3.06GHz engineering sample, and given it a quick test. As you can see below, the CPU features 4MB L3 cache and support for Hyper-Threading technology.

IT168 has chosen Core 2 Duo E8400 for comparison. According to most benchmarks, Clarkdale brings significant performance improvements over Core 2 Duo E8400, whereas showing very slight difference on gaming performance.

The reviewer notes that Clarkdale 3.06GHz can’t be overclocked any higher than 4GHz, even with higher voltage. Don’t forget it’s just an engineering sample.

As for power consumption, Clarkdale consumes 6-10W less than Core 2 Duo E8400.

According to HEXUS, 3.06GHz Clarkdale belongs to Core i3 series, and should be priced at $143.
