GreenHearts’ Soil-less Potting Mix Review Part 2

Finally had some time to buy some garden soil. Bought a 50 kilo bag of garden soil at the local landscaping place here in the south of the metro for P50. Also found some compost for P20 a kilo which is awesome. All I need to find now is some chicken manure and I’m pretty much set for soil amendments.

So the rules to the Potting Mix Review,

1. Grow one basil plant in regular garden soil. The other in Enrico Soil-less Potting Mix. and compare.

2. No amendments whatsoever until  review is done. (in 3 weeks)

3. Regular watering with rainwater and or tap water. Grow both plants in similar situations, same sun, same water, same conditions.

So here’s the other basil plant in regular garden soil

GreenHearts’ Enrico Soil-less Potting Mix Review Part 1

So here it is finally. I recieved an email from a lady that works for the good people of Greenhearts. They’re the folks that are responsible for many of the locally available potting mixes. Soil-less mixes such as Plantastic, Red Earth, Homegrown, Bromeliad Mix, Mediterranea.

So what was I going to do? GreenHearts asked me if I could grow these two Basil plants side by side in a container with two different potting mixes. Enrico and Regular Garden Soil. I was tasked to grow them for at least 3 weeks in these containers and see the difference that Enrico and Regular Garden Soil with each other.

But we’re here for Enrico Soil-less Potting Mix.

A Unique but Useful Pollination Tool

The Electric Toothbrush! The best possible pollination tool you can use for pollinating your tomatoes, eggplants and maybe even peppers. Why you ask? It’s to simulate the vibration of Bee’s wings when they fly around and onto flowers. Pollen gets loosened and lands on to other parts of the flower when it gets shaken up and eventually pollinates the flower.

Got this thing from Watson’s. It was the cheapest electric toothbrush. Worth P237. Has a replaceable bristle head (not that I’ll ever need it), comes with AAA batteries, which I will replace eventually once it runs out and buy rechargeable ones. I’ll post more updates on this if and when I do pollinate my vegetables this way.

Companion Planting for Your Vegetable Garden

So I’ve been thinking about companion planting for the past few months. Companion planting is a very useful tool in a vegetable grower’s toolbox.

I’ve discovered and proved that Basil is very beneficial to growing tomatoes, eggplants and peppers. Planting basil near these plants makes them grow real fast and real healthy. Aside from the fact that Basil smells good, tastes awesome and quite healthy for us. I’ve been germinating more basil to plant beside my plants.
