Sony’s Motion Controller Updates

Sony may not have done another full-on demonstration of its Motion Controller at this week’s big Gamescom event, but it did at least put together a little video showing off some of its progress, and GameTrailers has now thankfully obtained the goods so everyone not there can have a peek. Of course, there’s not exactly a whole lot in the way of actual new details, but we do get a glimpse of plenty of new potential applications for the controller, including using it as a paint brush, a magic wand, a torch, a bat to smash a pinata, or even an all-in-one hairstyling tool. Head on past the break to check it out for yourself.

SLi on P45!

Intel X58 is the First and only non-NVIDIA chipset to get SLI technology, and the users of Intel X38/X48/P45 motherboards probably hate the fact that their hardware doesn’t support SLI. However, everything has changed now…

One reader named Firewings [CCG] at Expreview forum (Chinese version) has figured out the way to get SLI support for its Asus Maximus Formula motherboard based on Intel X38 chipset, with one NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT and one GeForce GTX 260 graphics card.

Expreview.com has contacted the reader and run a quick test for validation. We chose Intel QX9650 OC (4GHz) CPU, Asus Maximus II Formular motherboard, one Yeston GeForce GTX260+ 896GD3, and one Galaxy GeForce GTX 260+ graphics card for the test.

Blizzard Claims Diablo 3 isn’t Affected By Starcraft 2 Delay

Despite the delay of StarCraft II into 2010, Blizzard says the release of Diablo III will not be affected by the shift.”I will confirm that the move of StarCraft into 2010 does not affect the release schedules of any of our other games,” said Blizzard president Mike Morhaime.

When asked whether that means Diablo III and StarCraft II could both be released in 2010, as Blizzard had previously said to expect a major Blizzard release each year, Morhaime’s response implied that possibility.”We haven’t announced any release dates on any future title. And I’ll also reiterate that the [move of] StarCraft into next year does not impact the schedule,” said Morhaime, who then, with a slight laugh, added: “And so it would be correct to conclude that you could expect two releases of Blizzard next year. But I will not make any conclusion as to what those titles will be.”

I’m willing to bet a million bucks that Diablo 3′s gonna be delayed to 2011 if they’re releasing Starcraft 2 Q3 to Q4 of 2010. It’s gonna affect sales of D3 and SC2 if they release two powerhouse games at the same time.

It’s Official! Starcraft 2 Delayed to 2010

Update: Blizzard says that Diablo 3 is unaffected by the delay

In the long battle between Blizzard’s standards and the calendar year, the calendar again came out the loser today with the announcement that the studio’s anticipated RTS sequel StarCraft II has been delayed into the first half of 2010.

Blizzard attributed the delay to needing additional time to produce the new version of Battle.net, its online gaming service. Though few details are available on the new portal, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick likened it to Xbox Live in its combination of gameplay and social networking features.

“Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game,” said Blizzard in a statement.

Added the company: “The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.”

The shift of StarCraft II does not come as a huge surprise, as some analysts were already predicting the sequel might slip into the next year. Blizzard had previously stated the StarCraft II beta could last from four to six months, meaning that even if the beta had begun in August, it would have left a very tight window for Blizzard to work in.

While affirming the game was planned for release by the end of 2009, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said in May: “But as always, we won’t release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players.”

Well at least we now have  a definite date of it being released. But knowing Blizzard, they’ll just further delay it even more. At least they’ll have more time perfecting the game, taking out all the bugs and stuff.
