Too Little Too Late: Nvidia GPU’s get Directx 10.1

Nvidia’s GT200 generation will get a 40nm refresh, and from what we hear, the new chips will all become DirectX 10.1 compatible.

This comes a few years too late as ATI has introduced its first DirectX 10.1 capable chips in the summer of 2007, but knowing Nvidia, they will be able to convince the market that DirectX 10.1 time is just happening. Nvidia will also preach that it will take a while until DirectX 11 hits off and they are probably right about that one.
We’ve heard GT210 and GT220 brands associated with the new products, but there is not much we can confirm at press time.

This refresh should be coming in end of summer or early September time and naturally, 40nm means higher clocks and less thermal dissipation.

A little too late to be releasing DirectX 10.1 isn’t it? Nvidia’s done it all wrong I think. They should have released DirectX 10.1 ready cards around 6-9 months ago.

AMD: Directx 11′s White Paper

Looks like AMD’s gonna be first with Dx11. I would love to see more improvements on videocards. That would drive prices lower and make gaming more affordable for everyone. =D

So there’s been rumors that when Windows 7 is released, Direcx 11 videocards will come out at the same time. And AMD has been pushing for Directx 11. So here are the improvements released so far:

  • Improved Parallelism
  • Improved Precision and Integer Processing
  • Tight Integration between Compute Shaders and Rendering Pipeline
  • Improved Ease of Programming and Better Memory Usage Efficiency

can you believe that's completely computer generated? RAYTRACING BABY!

Different Approach to Gaming Surfaces: Razer Sphex

You know how it is. If you’re a hardcore gamer, you buy hardcore stuff for your hardcore hobby. So you’d most likely speed a big chunk of your money on a high end graphics card, processor that eats everything up, large ass lcd screen. And then when it comes to your mouse and keyboard, what then? Of course you’ll wanna buy the best. But of course there entails additional extra cost to all this stuff. You’ll have to buy expensive stuff for your expensive stuff. Well, buying a mousepad isn’t as expensive as shelling out an arm and a leg for a graphics card of course. But I remember the days when I used to just ask for a mousepad from the neighborhood computer shop coz mine was ugly and all used up already.

Gulftown: Intel Core i9?!?!?!?

Say hello to Core i9
Intel’s upcoming flagship client processor, codenamed Gulftown will get the higher Core i9 marker. This 6-core chip will have every performance enhancing feature in the book available, including a total thread count of 12, and a 50% increase in L3 cache over Bloomfield, at 12 MB. It will retain compatibility with the existing LGA-1366 socket, and X58 chipset, and will be available in Q1 2010.

Gulftown. I’m guessing this’ll be 6 Physical Cores and 2 Threads on each core. Good thing it’ll be compatible for the early adopters of the X58 chipset. Heh. I haven’t even moved on from LGA775 yet. I’m still on my good old trusty P45 and X38 motherboards. Darnit, I feel like I’m so left out now.

More info:

Some days ago Intel put an end to the rumors and officially introduced the Core i3 and Core i5 pattern. But now new rumors say that Intel’s 6-core CPU Gulftown will be traded under the name Core i9. The current Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors will be the Core i3 family.

Gulftown is said to go hit the retail markets by the name Core i9 and represents the upper end of the performance array. The 6-core CPU is said to get all the features of Bloomfield, HT for 12 cores and a 50 percent bigger level 2 cache – all in all 12 MiByte. The Gulftown or Core i9 are said to be compatible to the socket LGA 1366 and X58 motherboards and first models are expected in Q1 2010.
